About Split-Kitty.com

In case you are wondering where the name of this site comes from, let me tell you a little tale. But before I begin, be forewarned: I HATE CATS!

One day last summer, I was driving my nephew to school on my way to work. He was staying with us for part of the summer so he could attend summer school while his folks were out of state. Well, cruising down Pacific Coast Highway into the morning sun, we spotted in the distance two lumps in the middle of the road. These indistinct bumps were situated approximately 15 inches apart from each other.

Andy turned to me and asked "What do you think that is?"

Before I could answer, we had closed the distance between us and the mysterious objects. As we neared, I determined that the two objects had been, at one time, one object. Zooming by I remarked off-handedly that it was a "Split-Kitty". Since he had not seen the item in detail. As I explained to him that it was a bifurcated Burmese his look of puzzlement deepened.

So, I launched into as many synonyms for the road kill that we had observed: seperated Siamese, cleaven cat, cracked Chantilly, divided Devon Rex, splintered Sphynx, partitioned Persion. Eventually I simpled it down to "it was what's left of a road kill cat that was split in two."

Being a boy, he thought this was the funniest thing and we laughed for a good deal more time about this. I'm sure he would have loved to go back and have another look at the remains of the Manx.

So, when time came to begin building and naming this site the name seemed to fit the bill.

For those of you who are into typography, the choice of Addled for the font used in the logo was quite simple.
